KeepAwake – Keep Your Windows PC Awake

Windows utility · Privacy-first

Your PC, wide awake.

One switch stops your PC sleeping, your screen timing out and the screensaver kicking in. Flip it off, or just close the app, and Windows goes straight back to your normal settings.

Try it free for a day, then pay once. No subscription, no account, no data collected.

How it works

Skip the settings shuffle.

Keeping a PC awake for a presentation shouldn’t mean changing settings and remembering to change them back.

The usual way

  1. Open Settings, then System, then Power
  2. Change “Turn off my screen” to Never
  3. Change “Make my device sleep” to Never
  4. Find the screensaver settings and turn that off too
  5. Later: remember every one of them and put them back

5 steps, and easy to forget

With KeepAwake

  1. Open KeepAwake and flip the switch
  2. Done. Close it when you’re finished

Questions

Good to know.

Does it change my power settings?

No. KeepAwake asks Windows to stay awake while it’s switched on, the same way video players and presentation apps do. Your sleep, screen and screensaver settings are never edited, so there’s nothing to put back.

What if I forget to switch it off?

It stays on until you switch it off or close the app. Closing KeepAwake, shutting down or restarting always ends it.

How does it stop the screensaver?

Windows allows the screensaver to start even when an app asks it to stay awake. So when you’ve been idle for 30 seconds, KeepAwake taps F15, a key that isn’t on any normal keyboard. It doesn’t type into your apps or record anything.

Can I still lock my PC?

Yes. Windows+L and the Start menu lock work as normal. KeepAwake only stops Windows locking itself from inactivity. On work PCs, check with your IT team first, as some organisations require an automatic lock.

What about closing a laptop lid?

Closing the lid still does whatever your lid setting says, usually sleep. KeepAwake doesn’t override it.

Will it use more battery?

It keeps your screen on, so your laptop uses about as much power as when you’re actively using it. Switch it off when you don’t need it.

Is there a Mac version?

Not yet. KeepAwake is Windows only for now.
