He Conservative Party were doing well until BREXIT. I think a new wave of politics is just what was needed for the country but now we’re stuck with Labour. Not a bad choice, anything was better than another five years of the same old circus.
Personally, I don’t think anyone can disagree that the tories are better off taking a back seat and letting someone else have a go. The party turned into a shambles after David Cameron, BREXIT was a poison chalice, Theresa May was a scape goat, Liz Truss was the only willing candidate after May left and she barely made it a week and received a very handsome retirement package; a small price to pay for the impact she had on the economy! Boris was doing great until Covid and then he’s out having parties whilst we waved goodbye to our nan through a window only to be stabbed in the back by his Chancellor, Sunak, who attended the same parties, just in time to become prime minister only to be found to be so out of touch with the majority of people living in the UK due to his and his wife’s wealth that those like me who did vote Tory for most of their life just couldn’t bring ourselves to do it again, not when so much money is being freely given away to support people from other countries moving to the UK due to war or economic reasons, and even foreign aid (and yes I get all the arguments for foreign aid and usually would be all for it but the last couple of years my views have changed) whilst British people are being let down; homelessness, addiction, health care (especially mental health), policing… We get fined for every little indescretion – I’ve had so many fines from a trip to London I’ve lost track, one of them was for stopping in a box junction – I didn’t impede traffic, all of my wheels had crossed the box. It’s a revenue generating exercise; obviously I’d accept the fine if I’d actually impeded traffic. We have money to put in 24h bus lanes everywhere despite bus services stopping at 8pm and starting at 6am but not enough money to get homeless veterans off the street.
My point is, anything, including Labour, was a better choice than the circus we’ve endured for the last five years. I voted lib dems, and I don’t believe I’m saying it but if my only other option was labour, I’d have voted Labour.
What we need is a new party that’s formed by a mix of all income levels, representative in the sense that more of the party would be average income earners or less, that actually represents us. The problem is, we’re all too busy with work to form any sort of large organisation like the labour party, and not many of us have a spare £500 to register as a candidate, that’s before anyone has even voted for us. It would take an experienced politician with a lot of money to lead such a party whilst navigating the complex electorate system. Surely, entering government should be more accessible?
